| Dual Layer
The latest buzz in the DVD recording industry is support for dual layer burning. In the past, home recordings were limited to 4.7 GB single layer blanks, however, commercial DVDs were often produced on larger DVD-9 discs. This meant you needed to leave out extras and/or compress the movie to make it fit on your smaller blank.
Now, dual layer burners and media are available for the home user. This means you can usually create an exact 1 to 1 backup of your DVD without leaving out anything. Many of the DVD copy products we reviewed (such as 1Click DVD Copy and DVD Cloner II) have added support for dual layer recording.
While this all sounds good, it is still a little bit too expensive for the benefits gained. Most movies compress just fine to 4.7 GB. Dual layer burners are cheap (under $100) but dual layer media costs up to $10 each. Once the price of the media drops dual layer burning will become a very popular choice.
